A two-day meeting of the Expert Advisory Group of the Financial Services User Group at the European Commission (FSUG) concluded yesterday in Helsinki. As per usual, the meeting was attended by their member and VZMD President, Mr. Kristjan Verbič. The FSUG members were addressed, among others, by the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Finland, Marja Nykänen, who presented the national strategy for financial literacy. The events took place at the NASDAQ Helsinki, and included research presentations regarding shareholding, financial services, and sustainable financing in terms of financial services users and consumers. Yesterday, the FSUG members attended the start of the trading session at Nasdaq Helsinki, followed by several internal meetings of the Group.

The key priorities of the EU Retail Investment Strategy were presented mainly in regard to coherent protection of various legal instruments, building on the competitiveness and cost efficiency of products, as well as bias-free advice. VZMD and European Federation of Investors and Financial Services Users (BETTER FINANCE) supports and give further impetus to the EU Retail Investment Strategy, particularly in view of providing bias-free advice of financial service providers in their relation with the customers. These topics had been presented two days ago in Brussels as well, at the General Assembly and International conference of BETTER FINANCE, and also by the European Commissioner for financial services, financial stability and the Capital Markets Union, Mairead McGuinness.

The FSUG was established by the European Commission in 2010 in order to include the financial services users in the process of preparation of the regulations, procedures, and policies at the EU level; as of now, it has 20 members from 11 EU countries, with VZMD President, Mr. Verbič, as the sole representative from Slovenia. The latter took the past FSUG meetings to share his numerous constructive proposals and remarks, and has been very vocal regarding some controversial practices picked up by the Association.
