Last week, Madrid hosted the "World law Congress" - 26th Biennial Congress of the World Jurist Association (WJA) – under the topical title "Constitution, democracy and freedom. The rule of law, guarantor of freedom". The central congress program and other related events were attended by over 2,000 prominent international attendees and prominent guests, presidents, decision-makers, judges, attorneys and influential jurists from over 130 countries. At the invitation of Mr. Javier Cremades García, President of the World Law Congress, the PanSlovenian Investors’ & Shareholders’ Association (VZMD) President, Mr. Kristjan Verbič, also attended the event, and was the only speaker from Slovenia, alongside with the former President of the Republic of Slovenia, Mr. Danilo Türk.
Mr. Verbič was invited also to present the bail-in concept, in the context of this scandalous case of detriment to investors during the rehabilitation of Slovenian banks and in light of European legal frameworks and procedures, including the recent announcement of the lawsuit to be filed by the European Commission reproaching Slovenia for confiscation of ECB documents during the investigation by the National Bureau of Investigation at the Bank of Slovenia (VIDEO). Apart from the host and friend, Mr. Cremades Garcia, with whom the VZMD has been collaborating for many years – among others as part of the International Financial Litigation Network (IFLN) and the World Federation of Investors (WFI) – Mr. Verbič also met and exchanged views with a number of prominent guests, and influential jurists and decision-makers. Among others, he met with the longstanding Prime Minister of Spain, Mr. Felipe Gonzalez, the President of Portugal, Mr. Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the former Secretary General of NATO and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Javier Solana, the President of WJA, Mr. Franklin Hoet-Linares, as well as many other influential jurists with whom the VZMD has been collaborating, such as the Austrian lawyer, Mr. Eric Breiteneder (VIDEO), and Mr. Hachem Boulos. At the end of the congress, the VZMD President took part in the closing event, which included the "WJA World Peace and Liberty Award", and congratulated His Highness Felipe VI, the King of Spain, and Her Highness Queen Letizia.
On this occasion, the VZMD President was also asked for an interview, in which he – apart from unconstitutional expropriations of investors and related procedures – also showcased the activities and capabilities of the international business-investor programs of the VZMD: investo.si and investo.international as well as the operations of the European Federation of Investors (Better Finance), where he will be running for the fourth term as a member of the Executive Board .
WJA is a non-governmental organization with special consultative status at the UN and constitutes an open forum where judges, lawyers, law professors and other professionals from around the world work cooperatively to strengthen and expand the rule of law. It was founded in the United States in 1963, based on the original concept ideated by Sir Winston Churchill of "contributing firmly from civil society to strengthen the rule of law."
