After last week's gala dinner in Schönbrunn Palace on Thursday, which took place after the General Assembly of the European Federation of Financial Services Users (EuroFinUse) in Villa Klimt, the International Conference entitled The Financial Repression of Savers and Investors" took place on Friday, and it was organised by EuroFinUse and the Austrian Association of Shareholders (IVA).
Pan-Slovenian Shareholders' Association (VZMD), which is one of the most active EuroFinUse members – VZMD President Mr Kristjan Verbič is also a member of the Board – has this time included among the panel speakers also a representative of the Slovene Insurance Business, Mr Benjamin Jošar, a member of Triglav Insurance Company Management Board, which is - along with 26 other business entities from Slovenia – included in the two international VZMD business-investment programmes: Invest to Slovenia (investo.si) and International Investors` Network (invest-to.net).
After a successful cooperation in the Slovene business delegation during the visit of the Slovene Foreign Minister in Moscow, VZMD representatives who took care of suitable presentations of companies, institutions, and investment projects included in investo.si and invest-to.net, also arrived from Moscow to Vienna on Friday, this time especially on the basis of the interest of Triglav Insurance Company, which has sent two of its representatives to the Conference, namely Mr Jošar and also the Executive Director for Finances, Mr Uroš Ivanc. They both used this opportunity for networking and talks with numerous respected international participants.
In the framework of the round-table discussion VZMD President opened a discussion related to the opinion about the so called »hair-cuts of investors in Slovenia«, which could also become an example for other countries. VZMD President presented the problems of the proposal of the Slovene Law Amendments about Banking Act (ZBan-1L), which explicitly and retroactively encroaches upon the rights of the holders of subordinate bonds of banks. He also emphasized that those preparing and making decisions in this process have said that the adoption of such law is, in spite of all convincing doubts, inevitable, because the European Commission insists on it, and the Commission is not willing to accept any negotiations, let alone allow any indulgence, therefore his debate was intended mostly for the representative of the European Commission for Internal Market and Services, Mr Carlos Marvall. More news to follow in video news coverage this week.
Along with Mr Jošar and Mr Marvall there were also some other representatives participating in the round-table discussion – a co-founder and President of the European Crowdfunding Network Mr Olivier Gajda, the president of the Union Asset Management Holding AG Mr Joachim von Cornberg, and the representative of the Austrian Federal Chamber of Labour and ESMA member Mrs Gabriele Zgubic-Engleder.
After the opening addresses by IVA President Mr Wilhelm Rasinger and the President of EuroFinUse Mr Jean Berthon, who opened the Friday's Conference, the assembled audience were addressed by: the President of the Austrian National Bank Mr Claus J. Raidler, the Executive Director of the Austrian Agency for the Supervision of Monetary Market Mr Helmut Ettl, the President of the Board of Vienna Insurance Group Mr Peter Hagen, Dutch economist and publicist Mr Edin Mujagic, a member of the European Economic-Social Committee Mr David Croughan, and the Executive Director of EuroFinUse Mr Guillaume Prache (in the photo right: Guillaume Prache, Jean Berthon, Kristjan Verbič and two representatives of the Russian Association of Investors Aleksej Smirnov and Andrew Lesovoy). After the Conference had been finished, the reception was held at the premises of the Austrian Mnistry of Finances.
