The constitutive meeting of the Consultative Group of the Investor Protection Standing Committee (IPSC) was held yesterday at the headquarters of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) in Paris. Prior to the session, IPSC members gathered for a joint lunch. The Consultative Group has been established to define and implement ESMA’s strategic objectives, particularly concerning retail/individual investors, as well as to ensure horizontal alignment and coordination of all ESMA activities related to investor protection across various fields. Among its responsibilities are addressing all key aspects of the distribution of financial products by intermediaries to investors, including costs charged to investors, as well as coordinating financial literacy efforts and policies related to financial innovations, regulations, and similar areas.

Among the 22 IPSC members, whose new term commenced this October, is the VZMD President, Mr. Kristjan Verbič. He arrived in Paris yesterday morning directly from China, following the conclusion of his commitments there, where he had participated in two Slovenian government-business delegations over the past two weeks. Mr. Verbič’s membership in IPSC marks his third role within ESMA. Previously, he was appointed in 2016 to the Consultative Working Group of the Corporate Finance Standing Committee (CFSC) and later, in 2021, to the Consultative Working Group of the Financial Innovation Standing Committee (FISC).

Mr. Verbič also holds prominent positions in the Slovenian, EU, and international arenas. He is a member of the Executive Board of the European Federation of Investors & Financial Services Users (BETTER FINANCE), the Executive Committee of the World Federation of Investors (WFI), and the Financial Services User Group (FSUG), an expert advisory group to the European Commission. Following the Paris meeting, Mr. Verbič continued his journey today to Brussels to attend a session of the FSUG.
