Last week, another Slovenian delegation visited China, this time focusing on winemaking and agriculture, accompanying the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry & Food of the Republic of Slovenia, Ms. Mateja Čalušič (pictured). The diverse program featured the participation of 17 Slovenian companies from the food, wine, agricultural machinery, and natural cosmetics sectors across various segments of the visit. On Tuesday, the Minister, alongside Ambassador H.E. Mr. Boštjan Malovrh (pictured), inaugurated the Slovenian exhibition space at the prestigious “ProWine Shanghai International Wine & Spirits Fair”. The event showcased 3,000 exhibitors from 50 countries, including notable Slovenian winemakers – among them Edi Simčič, Klet Brda, Klet Krško, Marjan Simčič (pictured), Steyer, Ščurek, Vina Blažič, and others – who garnered significant attention and enthusiasm from visitors amidst strong international competition. This delegation also visited HUAWEI to review their technological solutions in the agricultural sector, followed by an evening reception featuring Slovenian sommeliers and the renowned chef, Mr. Jože Oseli (pictured), who presented his new book collection “I Realized My Dreams”.
At the invitation of Ambassador Malovrh, the VZMD President, Mr. Kristjan Verbič, joined the dinner and several bilateral meetings. Mr. Verbič had already actively participated in the previous government-business delegation focused on technology, the automotive industry, and pharmaceuticals, which visited Shanghai the week prior. Through international business-investor programs: Invest to Slovenia – investo.si & the International Investors’ Network – investo.international, VZMD has been successfully collaborating for years with numerous winemakers and Slovenian food processing companies. Notably, these collaborations included organizing the 2021 meeting of European and World Federation of Investors representatives in Slovenia (VIDEO: https://youtu.be/JoaQyqZlVwg), Slovenia Day in Denmark during Eurovision 2014 (VIDEO: https://youtu.be/854qa56rwxY), and participations at events in Toronto (2013), Bratislava (2014), New York, and Washington (2015), among other prominent occasions.
Mr. Verbič also took the opportunity to engage in discussions with delegation participants, attended meetings, and visited the vibrant Slovenian exhibition space. He met with Mr. XQ Zhang, Director of SinoExpo, the organizer of the ProWine fair (pictured), and Mr. Zhu Laihua, Director of the local branch of GORENJE (HISENSE) (pictured). Following the business conference “Slovenia-China Sustainable Agri-Partnerships”, the delegation proceeded to Beijing, where bilateral meetings were held at the Ministry of Agriculture and the National Forestry and Grassland Administration. VZMD President has continued to Paris, where he is participating in a meeting of the Consultative Working Group of the Investor Protection and Intermediaries Standing Committee (IPSC) at the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA).
