The official segment of the annual meeting of the European Federation of Investors and Financial Services Users (BETTER FINANCE) concludes today in Vilnius, Lithuania. On Wednesday, the meetings of the Executive Board and the General Assembly of BETTER FINANCE took place, followed by the International Investors’ Conference "Shaping the Future of Finance" (VIDEO: https://youtu.be/besk4U2nPX4).
The Executive Board reviewed the financial report and budget, and appointed Aleksandra Mączyńska (previously acting) as the Director of BETTER FINANCE for a full term. After the evening reception and dinner, the events continued with the International Investors’ Conference, organized in cooperation with the Lithuanian Investors' Association (LIA).
The conference began with opening addresses from Lithuania's Minister of Finance, Gintarė Skaistė, the Rector of Vilnius University, Prof. Dr. Rimvydas Petrauskas (photo with the VZMD President), President of BETTER FINANCE, Jella Benner-Heinacher, and President of the LIA, Giedrius Steponkus. This was followed by three engaging panel discussions featuring prominent experts: CEO of Revolut Securities Europe, Rolandas Juteika, Head of the Digital Transformation Department at the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA), Dr. Tim Shakesby, Head of European Market Services at NASDAQ, Roland Chai, President of the World Federation of Investors (WFI), Mark Northway, and others. The discussions focused on the Baltic capital market and the Capital Markets Union, local financial technology and its impact on the capital market and finance in general. They also examined so-called crypto assets in terms of investment opportunities as well as risks for users and consumers. Additionally, the attendees were addressed by the Governor of the Bank of Lithuania, Gediminas Šimkus, Chairman of the European Banking Authority (EBA), José Manuel Campa, and Executive Director of BETTER FINANCE, Aleksandra Mączyńska. The conference concluded with a gala reception and dinner.
As a member of the Executive Board of BETTER FINANCE, the President of VZMD, Kristjan Verbič, arrived in Vilnius on Monday. He participated in the Executive Board and General Assembly meetings of BETTER FINANCE and held individual meetings and discussions with local capital market representatives and other conference participants.
