Last Thursday and Friday, the University of Florence, its Department of Legal Sciences, and Harvard Law School Association – sponsored by the Italian National Forensic Science Institute – organized the fourth International Law Conference ‘Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem Nexus & its socio-economic implications: what lies ahead?’. The Nexus approach is a concept that addresses the challenges of sustainable development in a comprehensive manner, taking into account several variables simultaneously, and emphasizes the interdependence of water, energy and food security, as well as the ecosystems that support this security. The high-profile conference featured many prestigious international institutions, including the Stanford Law School, the University of Cambridge, the Beijing University, the Universidade de Brasilia, the European Court of Justice, the European Central Bank, and the NYC Bar Association.
The keynote speaker at the "NEXUS & DIGITALIZED ECOSYSTEMS" panel was the VZMD President, Mr. Kristjan Verbič (VIDEO: https://youtu.be/hzM_InFVm8A), who emphasized that "connecting the holistic concept and its placement into the digitalized ecosystem is even more crucial in today's world, on the threshold of the 'Era of artificial intelligence'". Mr. Verbič’s decision to attend was sparked by the prominent professor of the University of Florence, Mr. Ettore M. Lombardi, at their meeting last year in New York, where the VZMD President, as one of the invited speakers, attended the WORLD LAW CONGRESS (VIDEO: https://youtu.be/Q50Xh8c27vk), organized at the UN Headquarters by the WORLD JURIST ASSOCIATION celebrating its 60th anniversary.
